Day Students

Day Students
Day students are present at St Joseph’s College for a longer time each day than in other schools. This arrangement helps them bond closely with their fellow classmates and take part in a wide and diverse range of College activities. In today’s world, when many parents work long hours and return home in the early evening, the program outlined below can be ideally suited to families’ needs. Parents know their sons are engaged in healthy activities after school (usually sport), are being fed nutritious meals and are having time for supervised study and homework.
Particular details of the day program are as follows:
- Day students arrive at school by 8:00am each morning during the school week and leave at either 5:00pm following afterschool activities or 8:00pm if choosing to stay for dinner and the evening study program. Some senior students leave even later.
- Day students will not have a bed and therefore may not stay overnight.
- Day students will be given an area in the boarding house to change and store their uniform.
- Day students are required to attend all compulsory College events.
- Lunch and recess is provided and eaten with the boarders. Dinner is also provided for those staying for study.
- After class, at 3:30pm, the students move to the boarding accommodation area and get changed for activities such as music lessons, sports coaching, etc.
- At 5:00pm the students either go home or stay at the College for showers, study and dinner.
- By Sunday evening parents of day students enter their intended departure times for the coming week on the College Day Student Portal which is viewed by their Boarding Coordinator. This allows the College to plan for the provision of meals and will allow supervisors to be aware of which students should be present after 5:00pm.
- In regards to sport, the students’ first and foremost commitment must be to College teams. The competition games are played on Saturdays. In winter students are required to attend the First and Second XV rugby games from 2:00pm.
Student Mobile Phones
Students are allowed to have mobile phones at the College and use them under the following conditions. Mobile phones are not to be carried or used:
– on campus from 8.00am until 3.30pm;
– in dining rooms;
– at sport;
– during evening study;
– after lights out.
During these times students are required to store mobile phones securely in their lockers. Years 7 to 9 boarding students will have their phones stored in the Head of Year’s office each night after lights out.
A Day Student's Daily Schedule
On weekdays day students arrive by 8:00am in uniform, go to the dorms, check in with the Head of Year and then are ready for activities at 8:15 am.
If they go home at 5:00pm students must check out with the Head of Year before leaving. If they go home at 8:00pm students must check out with the Head of Year before leaving.
