Students' Medical History
Parents will be asked to complete a Medical Information and Consent Form for their son. Parents are welcome to personally contact or visit the Health Centre to discuss any issue regarding their son’s physical and mental health. It is important parents discuss all details about their son’s present and past health, even if he is basically well. This information is confidential. In the event of an accident or sudden illness, a complete medical history is very important. Every effort will be made to contact parents but this is not always possible, therefore it is vital staff are aware of any allergies, drug reactions, mental health concerns, vaccinations, etc.
Diets
If your son has any special dietary needs these should be arranged through the Health Centre.
School Doctor
Doctors from Hunters Hill Medical Practice conduct a clinic for the boarders each weekday morning in the Health Centre. They are always willing to talk to parents about their son’s health. Consultations are bulk billed.
Services Available
Each student has his own medical history file and is listed on a computer database. Only the Doctor and nursing staff can access these records. College Psychologists are available to provide counselling services to students. Please see further information under Student Support Services. The Health Centre is well equipped to deal with a range of illnesses and injuries as well as health promotion. There are 12 beds in the Health Centre. If a boarder is unwell and cannot attend school, he would stay in the Health Centre. Prescriptions are filled by a local chemist who is always available to give advice and support. Chemist orders are delivered each afternoon and are debited to your credit card.
Medication and Health Plans
If your son has a Health Plan, eg for Anaphylaxis or Asthma, you must provide a copy to the Health Centre prior to him commencing at the College.
All medication including pain relief, antibiotics, cough mixture and prescription medication is stored safely and securely in the Health Centre and students must attend the centre for the administration of all medications.
All prescription medication must be provided in the original package and clearly labelled with your son’s name and the relevant dosages. The College may also ask for a letter from your son’s treating practitioner confirming the details of the medication.
Boarders
Boarders who become unwell and cannot attend school will be cared for in the Health Centre. Parents and carers are regularly kept informed about their son’s health through the Registered Nurses. If a boarder is too unwell to return to the Boarding House, Registered Nurses will care for him overnight in the Health Centre.
Day Students
If your son is unwell please keep him at home.
If a day student is unwell and will not be at school, parents are asked to enter this absence into Orah before 8:00 AM.
If a day student is unwell and presents to the Health Centre and is unable to return to class, parents will be notified to take him home.
If a day student is absent and it has not been entered into Orah, an SMS will be sent to the parents confirming absence.
