Weekly Boarders

Weekly Boarding Students
Weekly boarder refers to boys boarding at the College from either Sunday evening or Monday morning until after sporting commitments have finished on Saturdays. In Terms 2 and 3 this will mean after the conclusion of the First XV rugby.
Weekly boarders may not stay at the College on Saturday nights. However, they will be permitted to stay overnight on Saturday night when they are required to attend a designated compulsory event at the College on the Sunday.
When they leave the College on Saturdays, weekly boarders must go home to the care of their parents. Weekly boarders are required to check in and out each weekend with the Head of Year.
Weekly boarders return to the College on Sunday evening or Monday morning. Parents must nominate which of these two options their son will take.
On Sunday evening they are to return by 8.00pm. Should they choose to return on Monday morning they are required to be in attendance at school by 8.00am.
Weekly boarders are required to attend all compulsory College events.
If a boy is accepted as a boarder he must remain as a boarder until the end of Year 12. The Headmaster may review this condition in extraordinary pastoral circumstances.
Student Mobile Phones
Students are allowed to have mobile phones at the College and use them under the following conditions. Mobile phones are not to be carried or used:
– on campus from 8.00am until 3.30pm;
– in dining rooms;
– at sport;
– during evening study;
– after lights out.
During these times students are required to store mobile phones securely in their lockers. Years 7 to 9 boarding students will have their phones stored in the Head of Year’s office each night after lights out.
Leave and Visiting
Joeys’ renowned sense of community is magnified when boys board at the College. Boarding introduces them to a new and diverse family. It encourages the forming of genuine relationships and leads to greater understanding of fellow students. It also has benefits for parents. Mums and dads from both the city and country become part of a close-knit network that offers assistance to boys and their families and inspires long-lasting friendships. There are also allotted times for parents to visit their sons and enjoy the College’s hospitality.
City families play a special role in supporting country families, whether it’s inviting a boarder out for a home-cooked Sunday lunch or lunch on the lawn with mates, they look out for boys whose parents live further away. In return, the Joeys community enjoys a long tradition of country families extending their own generous hospitality to city boys and their families during holidays.
