Teaching and Learning Staff
Academic Staff
Director of Teaching and Learning and Head of Curriculum
The Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for all curriculum, teaching and learning matters in the College. They work closely with the Head of Curriculum, Head of Academic Growth, the Heads of Department and the Academic Leaders to ensure teaching and learning at the College is dynamic and contemporary. Members of this Teaching and Learning team are always available to students and parents/carers for issues relating to teaching and learning in the College.
Academic Leaders
Academic Leaders, supported by the Head of Academic Growth, deal with the overall academic progress of each boy in a particular year group. Issues of a general nature that may involve more than one subject are dealt with by the Academic Leader.
Heads of Departments
Each subject has a Head of Department who ensures that the College maintains the required curriculum standards and leads innovative practice.
Classroom Teachers
Classroom teachers creatively implement the curriculum. They are responsible for each student’s academic care, academic progress, assessment and reporting.
Careers
Careers advice and direction is provided by the College Careers Counsellor who works with the boys, parents and staff in the College, ensuring up-to-date and comprehensive careers support.
Diverse Learning
Diverse Learning staff provide a range of both support and extension activities for students in the College. Purpose built classrooms for individual and small group instruction allow for a range of literacy and numeracy interventions to be implemented where required.
For students with disability, Enrichment Advisors are appointed to assist with executive function, scaffolding and adjusting of classwork and assessment tasks. Individual Education Plans are formulated and monitored for these students in consultation with parents and subject teachers. In-class support is provided as well as 1:1 sessions to assist students with curriculum demands and homework. Academic mentoring provides another level of assistance, particularly for students in Stage 6.
Liaison with external supports including psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and RIDBC ensures that a holistic approach is being provided for students requiring additional interventions or treatment.
Staff ensure that Disability Provisions are made available to students who have additional needs and meet the NESA guidelines for provisions approval. Extension opportunities are provided for high potential learners through a number of programs in Years 7-10 including an annual internal academic competition, Synapse, and the co-curricular Project Connect elective for Stage 5 students.
