Mentor Program.

The Joeys Mentor Program is a key component of the College’s approach to student wellbeing. Every student has a Mentor Teacher and attends Mentor Group for 10 minutes each morning and for 45 minutes every Wednesday. It is shaped by three key areas; Faith Formation, including social justice education; Academic Endeavour, using the SJC STRIVE Learning Framework; and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). The Mentor Program involves the explicit teaching of SEL to better equip our young men to self-regulate, self-manage, develop empathy, build resilience, make good decisions, and create positive relationships, preparing them for life as a Joeys Graduate.

Boys will develop their knowledge and skills of how to enhance their own wellbeing and that of those around them through a wide range of activities from Years 7-12, including; small and whole year group sessions led by Mentor Teachers, College Psychologists, Professional and Teaching Staff; Peer Support (Yr 11/Yr 8 and Yr 10/Yr 7); faith formation and service learning opportunities; seminars and presentations from external guest speakers; Inter-Mentor Group Challenges and much more.

Regular time is devoted to staff professional learning in the area of student mental health and wellbeing to enable our Mentor Teachers to effectively support the boys in their care. We have trained over 80 staff in Youth Mental Health First Aid in the past 2 years and continue to train new staff who join Joeys.
